EF101S-DUAL OSCILLATOR Operation Manual
Congratulations on your purchase of the Electro-Faustus EF101 Dual Oscillator Standard!
The EF101 is a digital circuit in which one oscillator feeds into another in series. The interplay between the 2
can create some amazing sounds.
- OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS ?
Connect your amplifier to the OUTPUT jack. Please note that whenever a plug is inserted into the OUTPUT
jack, the EF101 is draining current from the battery. The STATUS LED will light up when the EF101 is on.
Use the FOOT SWITCH to toggle between on and off.
The RATE control adjusts the speed of the oscillator. With the RATE knob turned fully counter clockwise, you
should hear a pulsing tone which is metronome-like. Turning the RATE knob clockwise, the pulsing speed
will increase, until it becomes a steady tone. Notice that the STATUS LED will blink in unison with the pulse
rate. At lower rates, you will see it blink. At higher rates, it will appear as always on. This is because it’s blinking
at a rate faster than your eye can perceive.
The FREQUENCY control changes the pitch of the oscillator tone. The frequency range basically covers
what is perceptible to the human ear ? 20 Hz to 20 kHz. In the fully counter clockwise position you will hear
the lower end of the spectrum. As you turn it clockwise, the pitch will rise until only neighborhood dogs can
sense the tone.
As you adjust the RATE & FREQUENCY controls for the desired tone, you will notice some unique sounds
occurring when the oscillators are oscillating at the same speed. This can only be described as a flangey,
wah-like effect. It may take a while to find the right knob positions, but trust me, it’s worth it. Enjoy!
- POWER ?
The EF101 can be powered by a 9V battery or a regulated 9V power supply (center negative). The circuit
uses a very efficient low power chip, so 1 battery should last you a long time. To replace the battery, you
must unscrew the 4 screws on the bottom of the enclosure and remove the base.
